Bust ready for review

video

Next, the client has an opportunity to weigh in and suggest changes. One of the beauties of clay as a medium is that changes are easily made.
The Sony camera I use for still shots has a modest video function as well.

Back on track

The assymetry problem that existed is a little hard to describe. Imagine looking down on the head from directly above and picture a line from back to front, dividing the left and right halves. The line should be straight but instead it was a curve, curving to the right.

Two steps forward...and a step back

Having noticed a subtle but large problem with the symmetry of the head, today I substantially reworked the left side. A weakness from my early days of sculpting has crept back in. The right side of my sculpted heads has always been the strongest side, and it is as though the left side tries to migrate over to the right so as to capture some of that magic, resulting in a strange assymetry I call the "flounder effect," because both eyes seem to seek to be on the same side of the head. I overcame this problem years ago, but apparently the lack of practise has created an opportunity for its re-emergence.

A Glass of Red

Oil on panel, 10 x 8 inches (25 x 20 cm)

Gearing for my annual holiday card, with the usual "Santa's snack" theme. Perhaps this year Santa will enjoy a nice red wine, or maybe a bourbon on the rocks, along with some slices of beef, or cheese, or maybe some oysters?
