Nicole portrait, in progress

This will be continued next week. A tip Ed Ahlstrom gave in one of his classes was, if you are leaving a painting for a time with plans to resume it at a later date, leaving your edges "soft" will give you more flexibility when you begin work again.

Portrait of Isaac, in progress

Oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches (51 x 41 cm)

Isaac is an art model by night and a financial advisor by day. He finds his day job rather dull.

With this painting it is obvious that the body needs a lot of work, but I am happy with how the head is coming along. It was a challenge to make the almost-hidden left side of the face recede convincingly.

Blue-tiful

Oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches (51 x 41 cm)
Art models who work in downtown DC can be kind of offbeat sometimes. This woman had blue-dyed hair (as well as a jaw-droppingly beautiful body) so I call this painting "Blue-tiful."

An African, still in America

Oil on panel, 16 x 12 inches (41 x 30.5 cm)

My canvas was very dimly lit as I painted this, so in full light it seems a little garish. Maybe that's okay, though.
