Website Updates, Upgrades

For the past few days I have not been painting but rather working on my website; adding recent work, trying to make the layout better, and trying to make it more commercial by enabling folks to purchase paintings online. Not quite finished yet- not that a website is EVER finished!

Problem painting

Oil on panel, 16 x 12 inches (41 x 30.5 cm)

The proportions of this figure were wrong, so I made some adjustments in the studio, then sanded down the image in order to enable a fresh start during the next session. On the other hand, I may just start a new painting.

Painting enlargement, revisioning

I am enlarging one of my small Kensington oil sketches to a 24" by 24" (61 cm x 61 cm) format, using a photo as a reference as well as the small study. I may have to break down and buy some paint for the first time in a year!

In this process it is astonishing how little of value is added by the photo, in which so much color is missing.

Early Stage Figure

Oil on panel, 20 x 16 inches (51 x 41 cm)

In Rob Liberace's class this is the closest I have come so far to Rob's approach to figure painting. Below is the demonstration painting he did of the same subject from a slightly different angle.

Fill 'er Up!

Oil on panel, 9 x 12 inches (23 x 30.5 cm)

This sweet old filling station in Kensington looks like it dates from the 1920's and it is still operating. The evening light fled before I could finish, so I shall return...
