Certain painters that I admire employ "broken color" techniques, which is the method I am trying on for size here. Nicolai Fechin, Carolyn Anderson and Laura Robb are three such painters that spring to mind. If you are trying to inject some vitality into a painting of a person or other living thing, or nature in general, the shimmering, sparkling effect of broken color does that.
