Before I began as a painter I would look at a painting like this one and wonder what kind of a kooky person could look at a real life landscape and come up with such wacky colors. Now I understand that one can be driven to extremes in the effort to record one's vision of real space and the brilliant energy of light, when one's only tool is paint smeared over a flat surface.
