A Flower Child


Oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches (51 x 41 cm)

I often paint over an old unsuccessful painting with a solid color, terracotta red in this case, so as to be able to reuse the canvas. Unfortunately, with this canvas a ridge of impasto paint from the earlier painting happened to show up in an awkard spot, running from the left jaw across the upper lip. Oh well, I will have to deal with it.

The main thing I want to get right in this painting is the figure's fluid lines:
