Miata, a Liberian Lady in Costume

Oil on wood, 12 x 16 inches (31 x 41 cm)

This Liberian lady's daughter, Lendeh, posed for us a few months ago. My wife, Sally, spent her young girlhood, age one to eight, in Liberia, so we had a conversation about where my inlaws lived and the iron mine where Sally's father worked, Bomi Hills. Apparently Liberia is now of great interest to many international companies, due to its abundant natural resources, although iron mining in Bomi Hills has ceased.

Two weeks from now I will have another session in which to continue this painting.
