People who have to pose for many minutes on end naturally tend to have on their faces a pretty grim, unhappy expression, especially towards the end of the session. When such an expression is not very appropriate for the scene being portrayed I sometimes invent a smile for the painting, but in this case I retained the guy's facial expression and explained the incongruity with the title!
