Woman of Color


More and more I am trying with the figures I paint to integrate them with their surroundings by losing edges and carrying colors from the figure into the background, and vice versa. A photo of this model would have shown a distinct edge separating her from the background. But, unlike a camera, we humans see in three dimensions, so perhaps the more important truth is that the model's head is a three-dimensional form existing in space, rather than a shape against a background.
