Landscape Painting in the Studio
One bit of advice I hear from very good painters such as Walt Bartman is "Try to avoid painting from photos." The reason becomes clear after you have been painting a while: cameras do not pick up nuances of color. But the other bit of advice is "If you must paint from a photo, do an on-site color sketch first," so this is what I am attempting here, using a sketch from one of Walt's workshops in Maine last fall, along with a photo.
