Finished painting




Pastel on paper, 14 x 11 inches (36 x 28 cm)

It was interesting to play with the colors making up the figure. I was trying to make the colors as strong as possible while keeping them in the realm of believability. The orange in the figure's back, created by sunlight bouncing off the ground into this shadowed area, is kind of exciting, I think, and not unconvincing. The cooler reds in the face please me as well. The drapery, however, is less successful.

I think your pastels are lovely - they remind me a bit of Margaret Dyer, with her 'oranges in the shadows.'
