Softly Lighted Figure

Oil on canvas, 24 x 18 inches (61 x 46 cm)

The orange ground of the canvas influences every part of the painting, and helps to unify the image. I resorted to a stippling technique as the end of the session neared and the painting had not yet come together . Stippling, applying paint and moving it around by pounding the bristles of a large brush against the canvas, made it possible to work the entire surface at once.

Wow! What a beautiful painting. Bold, uncluttered composition and masterfully painted George. This painting sings!

Thanks, folks! I wanted this oil to look like a Margaret Dyer pastel, with warm and cool colors mingling but not mixing.
